<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify a backup system in a VM environment in which an external storage subsystem is used. <P>SOLUTION: A system includes a storage subsystem 100 connected through a network 400 to servers 200a and 200b, and a management server 300. The storage subsystem includes a plurality of volumes 151. The server includes VM 203a-1 to 203a-2 and 203b-1 to 203b-3 that are executed on the server, and has VM data stored in the volumes. The management server includes a processor, a memory, and backup control, and detects a VM on the server that is suspended or turned off, and identifies at least one volume used by the VM.
