The present invention relates to a composition for preventing and treating amyloid diseases, comprising a cyclophilin B (CypB) protein or a nucleic acid having a nucleotide sequence encoding the protein, to a method for treating amyloid diseases including a step of administering the composition to a subject requiring treatment of amyloid diseases, and to a method for screening drugs for preventing or treating amyloid diseases. According to the present invention, the composition comprising of cyclophilin B for preventing or treating amyloid diseases may effectively treat amyloid diseases which are caused by the neurotoxic effects of neuritic plaques formed from the deposition of the amyloid-ß peptide and other materials. Examples of amyloid diseases may include age-related cognitive decline, mild cognitive impairment (MCI), vascular dementia, cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA), hereditary intracerebral hemorrhage, senile dementia, Down's syndrome, inclusion body myositis (IBM), age-related macular degeneration (ARMD), chronic inflammation, multiple myeloma, type II diabetes, Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, and Alzheimer's disease. |
