The engine has a crankshaft (4) supported in sliding bearings of a crankshaft housing (6). A connecting rod (7) and input masses (8) are arranged between the sliding bearings. Permanent magnet structures (9) are arranged at the input masses, where whole permanent magnet structures form a rotor (10) at the input masses. The rotor is partially surrounded by a stator (11) that is provided with coils (12) at walls (13) in the crankshaft housing. A generator co-acts with an energy storage, which comprises a charging capacitor.
