<p>The invention relates to a method for the axial positioning of a first pipe in relation to a second pipe in order to weld said pipes at the ends thereof, the faces of which are first machined and define a sealing surface. According to the invention, a plurality of jacks (1, 2) are distributed around the first and second pipes, said jacks (1, 2) being connected to a central processing and control unit. The movement of each of the jacks (1, 2) in relation to the external surfaces of the first and/or second pipe is controlled in order to align and centre the internal end surfaces of the first and second pipe.
