Foundry moulds with delayed action exothermic inserts - - contained in double walled containers

Delayed ignition of exothermic mixtures placed into casting moulds for the delayed solidification of headers and feeders etc., is effected by the containers, into which they are placed, being fitted with dividing walls of suitably adjusted thermal conductivity. In the prefd. version the dividing walls/floors are double walled, the width of the air cavity between the inner and outer walls determining the ignition delay of the mix. The method permits reduction of the quantity of exothermic mixture required.
