Apparatus for coating carbon, glass and like fibers to make a composite using resin, glass, metal etc., matrix comprises a plurality of rollers passing the fibers through a container of a slurry or solution of the matrix material. At least one fluid jet is provided urging the fibers away from contact with a roller. The fluid jet may be gas or the matrix material or both.
