[Also in Division H3] An electro-erosion circuit comprises at least two electronic switches connected in parallel with one or more erosion gaps and with one or more D.C. voltage sources and a unidirectional conducting device between the or each switch and the or a gap. In one embodiment a pair of switches 7, 12 are connected in parallel and with an erosion gap 3, 6. A diode 5, 13 is provided in each parallel line to the gap from a D.C. source 1 and each line can be shortcircuited by one of the switches. The switches are preferably transistors although a controlled rectifier or a valve may be used. The diode may be replaced by a thyristor, transistor, magnetostrictive element or a valve. The diode pair prevent high current flowing through one of the switches when only one of them is conductive. The switches are controlled by a common pulse emitter 9. In a second embodiment, Fig. 4 (not shown), the electrode is made of separate parts (6a), (6b), insulated from each other and connected in parallel. Any number of electrode parts may be connected in parallel, Fig. 5 (not shown), and be controlled by separate pulse emitters of different frequency so that a workpiece can be eroded by different degrees across its surface. In a further embodiment, Fig. 6, a single gap 3, 6 is fed through a pair of diodes 5, 28 from separate voltage sources 1, 26. The switches 7, 31 are actuated by separate pulse emitters 9, 32 which may be synchronized. |
