[Also in Division D1] Apparatus for testing the speed of runs of the same or different materials in a knitting machine so that the feedrates can be equalized comprises a tachometer having a tensiometer on either side. The tachometer comprises a pulley clutched to a drive motor. In use the clutch is disengaged and the pulley brought into contact with the running yarn at an arbitrary first knitting station. The motor is then run at the same rate as the pulley and the rate and tensions noted. The apparatus is then applied to the remaining running yarns in turn with the pulley rotated by the motor at the rate first noted. If the feedrate at any station is not the same as at the first station, as evidenced by slippage of the yarn on the pulley and a corresponding difference in tension noted at the tensiometers, the stitch cam is adjusted so that tensiometer readings are equal. The feedrates are now at the desired value. |
