1,251,809. Electrically insulating coating. SUMITOMO ELECTRIC INDUSTRIES Ltd. 16 Sept., 1968 [14 Sept., 1967 (2); 6 April, 1968; 22 May, 1968], No. 6484/71. Divided out of 1,251,808. Heading B2E. [Also in Divisions C6 and C7] In a method of applying an electrically insulating coating to a wire, a first coating is applied electrophoretically from a solution or dispersion of a resin coating material by making the wire anodic therein, a second resin coating is applied non-electrophoretically and the coated wire is then baked. The electrophoretic coating may comprise a resin of polyester, phenol ester, melamine, acryl, acrylate, epoxy ester, polyimide, polyamide imide, polyethylene, PTFE, or a polyvinyl chloride resin. The second coating may be applied by mechanical application of a liquid resin coating composition (a) which is miscible in water and contains a resin which does not precipitate in water, (b) which contains water and an organic solvent miscible in water, or (c) which is immiscible in water. In the latter case, (c), the electrophoretic coating must be dried before application of the second coating. |
