1353200 Polyester resin compositions F H DROSTHOLM 6 July 1971 [6 July 1970] 31714/71 Heading C3P A reinforced and/or filled hardened polyester resin is prepared by forming a shaped mixture of a hardenable unsaturated polyester resin, a liquid ethylenically unsaturated monomeric cross-linking compound which is a hardener and a solvent for the polyester, a hardening catalyst and the reinforcing material and/or filler and curing the shaped mixture, the hardenable polyester without the cross-linking compound being first mixed dry or molten with the reinforcing material and/or filler, the resultant mixture being formed to the required final shape, and the liquid cross-linking compound and the catalyst being then added to the shaped mixture before curing to the final hardened product. In the examples gravel or a glass fibre mat is coated with powdered polyester and cobalt naphthenate powder and heated to melt the polyester; styrene containing methyl ethyl ketone peroxide is applied and curing takes place. Glass fibres are dry mixed with polyester powder and cobalt naphthenate powder, placed in a mould, a mixture of styrene and cyclohexanol peroxide injected and curing takes place. |
