1315053 Fluoroalcohols FARBWERKE HOECHST AG 9 June 1971 [10 June 1970] 19700/71 Heading C2E Compounds of formula R f CH 2 CH 2 OH, in which Rf is a C 4-16 -perfluoroalkyl group, are prepared by reaction of an iodide R f CH 2 CH 2 I with nitric acid to give a nitrate and subjecting this to catalytic hydrogenation. The compounds C 6 F 13 CH 2 CH 2 ONO 2 and C 6 F 13 CH 2 CH 2 ONO are prepared in comparative examples by reaction of the compound with nitric acid, or with sodium nitrite and sulphuric acid.
