Apparatus for exposing a full frame image of a stationary planar original 10 on to a moving photo-receptor - as shown a recycling web 16 of xerographic material, but the invention also includes within its scope non-recycled photographic film - comprises a rotatable or oscillatable prism 13 and drive means connected to the prism to synchronize prism and web movement so that the portion of the web being exposed and the image to which it is exposed have substantially the same linear velocity. The web 16 is charged by a corona charging device 31 and then advanced by rollers 17, 18, 19 to an exposure position. The electrostatic latent image formed at the exposure position is developed by being cascaded with developer 33, the powder image is transferred to a support surface web 37 by means of a second corona generating device, and the web 16 is cleaned by a brush assembly 44. The web 37 may be wound onto take-up coller 42 after fixing of the image by a heat fuser 40, or may be passed to a cutter. A pulley system 50, 52, 55 links the drive of roller 17 to a crank drive shaft 56 having a crank pin 57 thereon. This pin imparts an eccentric motion to a crank arm 58 via a rod 59, thereby causing the prism 13 to be rotated. A wheel 62 on the shaft 56 carries a pin 63 which, as the wheel 62 rotates, closes a switch 64 to energize flash-lamps 12 at the appropriate place in the prism cycle. The pin 57 is radially adjustable thereby to allow selection of different arc lengths through which the prism 13 oscillates. For each arc, a corresponding setting is made to variable speed driving mechanism 53 so that the tangential velocity of the light rays refracted by the prism remain in synchronism with the linear velocity of the web 16 in the exposure position. The arc length is adjusted depending on the appropriate dimension of the original. |
