A method and apparatus for causing to be displayed in a display of an electronic device a location uncertainty gauge 323; causing to be displayed in the display/user interface 300 of the electronic device a slideable element (such as a slide-bar) 324, the slideable element being slideable with respect to the location uncertainty gauge in response to a sliding input to set a size of a region of geographical uncertainty within which the electronic device is geographically located, and causing the region of geographical uncertainty to be shared with at least one third party. This allows a user who is sharing his or her location information with a third party to easily specify the uncertainty or accuracy of the location that is shared with the third party. The range specified may be from exact location shared to disabling of the location sharing. Concentric circles 326 may be used on a map display to show the level of uncertainty. A method is also described of specifying a threshold distance (S204, Figure 4H) and causing an alarm to be activated in response to the users location (or location of the users electronic device) to be within the threshold distance of a fixed location or from a third partys shared location (S206, Figure 4H). A further embodiment relates to receiving a region of geographical uncertainty within which a third party is located and displaying on the receiving electronic device the received region of geographical uncertainty, for example on a map (see, for example, Figure 4D).
