<p>A scintillator crystal for well logging has a heating element partially surrounding the crystal. The package in which the crystal is encapsulated may also comprise a layer of insulation such as silicone, PFA, PTFE or polyimide film. The thermal protection element prevents the scintillator crystal from experiencing more than a threshold rate of change in temperature, by preheating, controlling cooling or deactivating if heating rate is too high. This assists the prevention of cracking and non-uniform light output.</p> |
