Type - bar machines; power assisted type actions; key lever actions.-A power operated typewriter is provided with a continuously rotating drive roller 21 which on depression of a key lever 27 co-operates with a cam 31 of a cam bell crank 263 to rock a type bar actuating bell crank assembly 34 and impel the type bar 36 against the platen (not shown), whereby the bell crank assembly includes a drive bell crank 34b having an arm 714 which engages a type bar actuating bell crank 34a to impart a rocking movement to the latter which towards the end of its rocking movement moves independently of the bell crank 34b, so that the latter may be restored before the type bar 36 comes to rest again on the type bar rest 52. Permutation type selecting mechanisms; electric signal input arrangements.-The typewriter keyboard may be operated automatically in response to coded signals transmitted to a translator 14 provided with electromagnetically actuated permutation slide bars (not shown) which actuate a selected one of hooked levers 490 individual to the key levers 27 to engage a pin 491 to depress the associated key lever. Perforating machines; combination selecting means; closing electrical switches.-Depression of a key 27 and associated rocking of the respective cam bell crank 263 results in the displacement of a slide 261 or 262 which rocks a predetermined number of bails B-CD to close a set of electric switches (not shown) which actuate a perforator (not shown). Actions, adjustable impact.-The impact of type bars 36 is adjustable by mounting links 33 in a respective one of three holes in the drive crank bell 34b and also by a turnbucklo 43, 44 which adjusts the setting of the cams relative to the drive roller 21. Clash preventing.-The type bars 36 are operated through toggle levers 45, 46 which when the type bars are returned to their rest position are in a straight line to restrain the type bars against rebound. Linear disposition of toggle levers is adjusted by setting of the tongues 51 on the toggle lever 45. Keyboard lock.-A bail 29 is rocked into the path of key levers 27 to prevent their depression when the power is off. |
