The dyes are of formula: (in which A is H, Cl, methyl or methoxy; B is H or methyl; X is H, Cl, Br, methyl, methoxy, ethoxy, nitro, carboxyl, carbalkoxy, -SO2OH, opt. substd. carbonamide, sulphonamide or phenylazo or a grp. - -SO2-NH-SO2R, R is methyl, butyl, cyclohexyl, phenyl, or p-methylphenyl, or o- or p-chlorophneyl; Y is hydrogen, Cl or Br, or -SO3H and n is 0 or 1). In prefd. cpds. A, B and Y are H, and n is 1. The water-soluble dyes are suitable for colouring natural and synthetic polyamides and basic-modified polyester or polypropylene fibres.
