The lighting system (1) has a power supply device (2) with an energy generating unit (21) for generating a direct current. An energy storage unit (22) is provided for storing energy of the energy generating unit. A lighting unit (3) is equipped with multiple lighting mediums (31) operated by direct current. The lighting mediums are connected to the energy storage unit for supply of direct current. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling a lighting system.
