[Also in Division F4] Two heat pumps working on a vapour compression refrigerating cycle and with separate condensers 13 and 18 are provided in a dry cleaning machine with a rotatable perforated drum 1 in a closed chamber 2; dry cleaning solvent with a low boiling point, such as a chloro-fluorinated hydrocarbon, passing from a tank 4 into the chamber 2 for cleaning an article and being discharged into a soiled solvent receiver 9 from which it is evaporated by the heat pump condensor 13 and subsequently condensed by the heat pump evaporator 15 to return through a duct 12 to the tank 4; and solvent entrained in the article after cleaning being evaporated into air from a blower 17 heated by passing over the condenser 25 of the second heat pump and condensed out of the air, for returning to the tank 4 through a duct 24, by the evaporator 27 of the second heat pump. In an alternative machine (Fig. 2, not shown) the two heat pumps have a common pump (30) and a common solvent condensor (115) which may be supplemented by a water cooled coil (32) in a duct 111 communicating with both the still 9 and the air outlet from the chamber 2.</p> |
