A rolling mill, which incorporates a housing whose upper part can be pivoted upwardly to free its jammed rolls, is provided with gears for coupling the rolls together. Gear-wheels 19 and 19a which drivingly connect the rolls are associated with additional coaxial gears 119 and 119a. The additional gears have larger teeth than normal so that they remain in mesh when the housing part is pivoted. Thus the driving gears 19 and 19a are replaced in mesh when the housing is closed again. The additional gears are connected resiliently to the associated gears 19 and 19a. The connection may incorporate flexible pins having frusto-conical portions, or they may be of spring or hydraulic type.</p> |
