Shaped bodies may be formed by depositing binder-coated filaments in a mould prior to foaming. Local variations in the insert density may be provided by variation in the fibre of the filaments supplied, by applying a partial vacuum to the mould or by pressure by embossed plates. The filaments may be of metal, carbon, glass, polyamide, acrylonitrile, acetyl cellulose or polyester. Foaming systems may be based on polystyrene, P.V.C., unsaturated polyester resins, epoxy, phenol formaldehyde resins, polyurethanes and natural or synthetic rubber lattices. Shorter fibres plus complete reinforcements may be incorporated in the insert. |
