Finishing hole in die - by passage of abrasive material

A rough hole in a metal extrusion die is finished by forcing an abrasive compound through it until the required degree of finishing is achieved. The tool is supported in a holder which is firmly fixed to the end of a cylinder in which a piston fitted to the end of a hydraulic compresser moves. The abrasive compound is forced through the hole in the tool when the piston moves forwards. The operation is carried out mechanically and does not require a skilled operator. The finish obtained is more uniform and exact than that obtained by manual finishing.
