PURPOSE: A malfunction diagnosis logic and method of a transmission gear shift lever are provided to prevent the generation of quick start and sudden stop by determining normality shift whether or not through a shift state of the transmission gear shift lever. CONSTITUTION: An initial driving confirmation part(110) confirms whether a TGS(transmission gear shift) lever outputs an initial drive signal or not. A shift confirmation part(130) confirms whether a shift state of the TGS lever according to each shift situation is normal or not through the change of a TGS lever signal. A first shift confirmation part confirms whether a P-stage is normally changed into an R-stage or not. A second shift confirmation part whether the R stage is changed into The P-stage or an N-stage or not. A normal drive determining part(120) determines the shift state of the TGS lever.
