PURPOSE: A portable terminal and operating control method thereof are provided to improve the convenience of a user by enabling a user to directly control various movements of a three dimensional pointer. CONSTITUTION: A control unit displays a three dimensional image on a display unit(S205). The control unit displays a three dimensional pointer on the three dimensional image when the hand of a user is detected by analyzing visual data acquired by a camera(S210, S215). When the movement of the hand is detected, the control unit moves the space location of the three dimensional pointer according to the movement of the hand(S220, S225).
