The invention is intended to provide a suspension of fine particles of rutile-phase titanium dioxide coated with silver nanoparticles which have antibacterial properties higher than those of the state-of-the-art suspensions; it has multiple application such as the addition thereof to paints, synthetic fibres, manufacture of t-shirts, socks, shirts for avoiding sweat malodours caused by bacteria, also being applied in ceramics with bactericidal properties. The present invention provides a method for the production of fine particles of titanium dioxide coated with metallic nanoparticles, mainly rutile-pahse titanium dioxide fine particles coated with silver nanoparticles, these latter particles having a diameter of from about 200 nm to about 300 nm, being stable and dispersible; the silver nanoparticles have a diameter of from about 20 nm to about 60 nm and being useful in physical, biological, biomedical and pharmaceutical applications as an antibactericidal and antimicrobial agent. Mo reover, the invention includes a production system, at an industrial level, for obtaining the rutile-phase titanium dioxide fine particles coated with silver nanoparticles.
