PURPOSE: A security module management method, apparatus, and recording medium thereof are provided to offer a suitable communication service between head ends by confirming a subscriber terminal state. CONSTITUTION: An XCAS(eXchangeable Conditional Access System) manager determines a security module installation state when a protocol type notification message is matched with a message located in a terminal(S12, S13). In case a security module is installed, the XCAS manager requests security protocol type information to the security module(S14). When the protocol type notification message is matched with the requested protocol type information, the XCAS manager executes an XCAS standard procedure(S15, S16).
