701,232. Surgical syringes. EVERETT & CO., Ltd., S. & R. J. July 22, 1952 [July 24, 1951], No. 17528/51. Class 81(2) A hypodermic syringe has a transparent barrel in which a plunger slides, a graduated scale being mounted on one of these two members which co-operates with an index mark on the other member, the scale and index mark being so displaced that, when the plunger is pushed fully home, the index mark and zero graduation of the scale register at a position spaced from both ends of the barrel. In a glass syringe, Fig. 1, a scale 6 is marked on a barrel 3 within which slides a plunger 1 having a co-operating index mark 7. The index mark 7 may be part of a short scale of sub-divisions or a vernier scale. In another embodiment (not shown), a scale is marked on the plunger and an index mark on the barrel. The invention may also be applied to a syringe having a barrel provided with metal end caps (not shown). A metal needle-receiving cap 25, Fig. 7, may be affixed to the barrel 27 by screwing on to the end of the barrel which has a screw-thread 34. The needle-receiving cap 25 has grooves 37 of the same pitch as the screw-thread 34 which grooves receive a crimped helical spring which engages with the screw-thread 34. |
