The device has a piston-cylinder-unit, whose operating space is connected with a wheel brake of a vehicle via a hydraulic line. An auxiliary piston (6) is actuated by a pedal plunger (5) and a brake pedal (10). The piston is connected with another piston of a tandem main brake cylinder (4) via a connection device. The former piston is arranged concentrical to the latter piston. The latter piston is connected with the brake pedal via connecting rods and hinged beams. Sensor units are attached at a housing part. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for operating an operating device of a vehicle-brake system (2) a method for diagnosing a function of an operating device of a vehicle-brake system.
