An illumination device capable of improving the brightness of a display panel and suppressing the generation of uneven brightness in the display panel is provided. This backlight device (illumination device) (20) comprises: an LED (21); a light guide plate (23); and a reflective sheet (30) including a rear surface section (31) arranged on the rear surface (23b) side of the light guide plate and side surface sections (32 and 33) in contact with the side surfaces (23c) of the light guide plate. The light guide plate is fixed by the side surfaces of the light guide plate being pressed into the side surface section (33) of the reflective sheet.
