<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an elevator system that enables a prescribed elevator user to evacuate by an elevator when a disaster including a fire breaks out. <P>SOLUTION: The elevator device includes: a cage 1 raised/lowered inside a hoistway having each landing place on each of a plurality of floors; a fire sensing means 2 for sensing the break-out of a fire; an elevator operation control means 5 connected with a monitoring center 3 so as to control operation of the cage 1; and a code display means 7 that is provided at each landing place of each floor of the hoistway and displays a code, corresponding to a telephone number of the monitoring center 3, in a form readable by a portable terminal 6 having a code reading function when a fire is sensed by the fire sensing means 2. When receiving a phone call, whose call destination is the telephone number, from a prescribed elevator user, the monitoring center 3 transmits a command for allowing the cage 1 to travel to the floor, whose number is obtained by the phone call and where the prescribed elevator user waits, to the elevator operation control means 5.
