<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new bromate ion removing agent which can efficiently remove a bromate ion contained in water, especially a bromate ion removing agent which can reduce the bromate ion concentration contained in drinking water below to a reference value. <P>SOLUTION: The removing agent of a bromate ion includes a stratified double hydroxide expressed by general formula (1): [Fe<SP POS="POST">2+</SP><SB POS="POST">1-x</SB>Al<SP POS="POST">3+</SP><SB POS="POST">x</SB>(OH)<SB POS="POST">2</SB>](A<SP POS="POST">n-</SP>)<SB POS="POST">x/n</SB>-yH<SB POS="POST">2</SB>O (wherein A is an anion; n is the valence of the anion; x is 0.3≤x≤0.5; and y is 0.5-1.5) as an active principle.
