A transmission unit (1) successively outputs a plurality of data signals within pre-set transmission periods for transmission of a one-frame image, the periods being defined by the product of a prescribed unit number and a prescribed unit transmission period. Meanwhile, the transmission unit (1) outputs a control signal to the period among the pre-set transmission periods that is equivalent to the sum of the prescribed unit transmission periods not including data signals. This period corresponds to the sleep mode period of the transmission unit (1). The sleep mode period is set in a manner such that the ratio of the sleep mode period to the pre-set transmission period is greater than the ratio of the sum of a margin period for transmission of the control signal and the control signal transmission period to the pre-set transmission period.
