PURPOSE: A method for preparing high purity methanol decomposing catalyst is provided to improve the decomposing performance of high purity methanol and to maintain the high selectivity of the catalyst. CONSTITUTION: A method for preparing high purity methanol decomposing catalyst includes the following: a carrier is prepared by drying 40-90 parts by weight of silica; a mixed solution is prepared by mixing 7-250 parts by weight of a precursor containing nickel components, 6-190 parts by weight of a precursor containing copper components, and 100-700 parts by weight of distilled water; the mixed solution is carried in the carrier; the carrier and the mixed solution are stirred; and drying processes and firing processes are followed. The precursor containing the nickel components is Ni(NO_3)_2·6H_2O, and the precursor containing the copper components is Cu(NO_3)_2·3H_2O.
