<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for supporting loss and dispersion measurement of a fiber span when a dispersion compensation element (DCE) is included or not. <P>SOLUTION: A network link is set by accessing an optical signal on the entry side of a node of a DCE 235 which connects the exit side of the fiber span on the entry side of the DCE 235 to an optical amplifier on the node of the exit side of the DCE 235. This technique may include a step for determining the wavelength dispersion of the fiber span based on the optical signal and a step for reporting information related to the wavelength dispersion. Consequently, the technique can be applied during the setting of an initial system in which a user data signal and the DCE 235 are not included, after starting the transmission of user traffic by the network and after setting the DCE 235. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
