This security system is equipped with: a sensor attached to a commercial product; a sub-unit that is attached to a commercial product shelf, and that is connected to one or a plurality of sensors via wiring; and a base unit that monitors for theft of the commercial product by means of wirelessly receiving signals using a first frequency band from one or a plurality of sub-units. The sub-units are equipped with: a detection means that detects the theft of the commercial product by means of detecting removal of the sensor from the commercial product, or the like; a sub-unit-side transmission means that is configured in a manner so as to wirelessly transmit signals using the first frequency band, and that transmits an alarm signal to the base unit when theft of the commercial product has been detected; and a sub-unit-side receiving means that is configured in a manner so as to wirelessly receive signals using a second frequency band that indicates a band that is different from the first frequency band, and that receives instructions from a remote controller that wirelessly transmits various signals using the second frequency band. The base unit is equipped with: a first base-unit-side receiving means that is configured in a manner so as to wirelessly receive signals using the first frequency band, and that receives the alarm signal; a second base-unit-side receiving means that is configured in a manner so as to wirelessly receive signals using the second frequency band, and that receives instructions from the remote controller; and a base-unit-side alarm means that initiates an alarm operation when the alarm signal is received.
