PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lighting system that uniformly illuminates an area to be illuminated without noticeable speckles.

SOLUTION: A lighting system 40 includes: an optical device 50 that includes a hologram recording medium 55 capable of reproducing a scatter plate image; and a projection apparatus 60 that projects coherent light on the optical device so that the coherent light scans on the hologram recording medium. The coherent light made incident on respective positions of the hologram recording medium is overlapped on an area to be illuminated to reproduce an image. A light path of the zero-order light made incident on the hologram recording medium goes out of the area to be illuminated LZ.
