<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an object shape recognizing apparatus which can surely recognize the shape of an object from shape data by appropriately performing a feature point detection process on a boundary. <P>SOLUTION: The object shape recognizing apparatus includes: an input unit; a virtual surface arrangement processing unit; and a feature point detection processing unit. The input unit inputs shape data indicating the shape of an object. The virtual surface arrangement processing unit sets a virtual surface in a data deficiency portion of the shape data.
