A step apparatus for a vehicle is provided, which can be disposed in a railroad vehicle within a compact space. A pair of step links (11) are supported by a step block (12) in a manner such that the step links (11) can pivot at support points. A first guide part (22) allows end parts at one end of the step links (11) to move only in the direction parallel to the width direction of a door opening, and a second guide part (23) allows the step block (12) to move only in the direction perpendicular to the width direction of the door opening. A pair of step plates (14) support end parts at the other end of the step links (11) and move between an accommodating position and a protruding position. In the accommodating position, a sliding board (15) is not aligned with the pair of step plates (14) in the vertical direction. A first actuator (16) drives the pair of step plates (14) in a manner such that the pair of step plates (14) protrude from a railroad vehicle (100), outward in the vehicle width direction.
