The method involves preventing automatic disconnection of a combustion engine if a predetermined number of cycles comprising halt phases is recognized. A journey phase is continued if total time of the cycles lies below an administrable duration, and/or a sum of the halt phases of the cycles lies below another administration duration. The durations of the total time of the cycles are continuously updated during go-phase. Sum of two times is continuously administered and compared with threshold values. An independent claim is also included for a device for automatically disconnecting a combustion engine in a motor car.
