Ti alloy cathodes for electrochemical machining of components, e.g. deep-drilling, trepanning and closed sectional forms, are heated in a furance to 650-925 degrees C for 1.5-2.5 hrs; cooled in the furnace to 400-500 degrees C and further cooled in air until an electrically non-conductive adherent film is formed. Layer of film can subsequently be removed by heat-treatment, to expose active, conductive cathode surface, while leaving insulating film on non-active pts. to prevent current flow over parts being processed.
|
