<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a resin for thermosensitive recording paper protective layer improving damaging and bend-cracking when working and incidental peeling of the protective layer, while maintaining durability (plasticizer resistance, water resistance, heat resistance) of a recording layer of the thermosensitive recording material and a recorded image, and the thermosensitive recording material. <P>SOLUTION: The resin for thermosensitive recording paper protective layer includes a resin emulsion (C) made of polyvinyl alcohol (A) and a hydrophobic copolymer (B) having at least a cyano-group containing vinyl monomer (b1).
