<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress evaporation of a treatment liquid from an application roller and a squeeze roller, and shorten a start-up time of an application operation even after a long standstill, in an image forming apparatus configured to apply the treatment liquid to a medium to be recorded. <P>SOLUTION: The application device includes: the application roller 232; the squeeze roller 233; and a housing member 234 to house the application roller 232 and the squeeze roller 233 therein, having an opening 234a formed in a contact portion where the application roller 232 contacts with a conveyance roller 235, and forming a storage portion 234b to store the treatment liquid 201 therein. The application roller 232 is provided so that it may contact with or separate from the conveyance roller 235.
