发明名称 METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR SEPARATING GASES
摘要 1286845 Centrifugal separators C D FOIRE 22 Aug 1969 [23 Sept 1968] 41885/69 Heading B2P [Also in Division F1] An apparatus for separating a stream of gases, e.g. the exhaust from an i.c. engine, having at least two different molecular weight components, into at least a lighter molecular weight effluent and a heavier molecular weight effluent, comprises a substantially cylindrical chamber 10, Fig. 1, closed at both ends and provided in its periphery adjacent one end with an exhaust passage 16 for the heavier effluent and formed at the opposite end with an axial exhaust passage 14 for the lighter effluent and provided adjacent thereto in its periphery with an intake port 13 with which communicates a tangential conduit 12, a circular body 18 having an effective radius which is smaller than the radius of the chamber being located coaxially of the chamber upstream of and adjacent the exhaust passage 16. The gas stream supplied through the conduit 12 assumes a vortex flow and the circular body 18, which may be in the form of a disc or cone (as shown), directs the flow of heavier effluent towards the passage 16. In another embodiment, Fig. 3 (not shown), the body (18a) is a butterfly valve which is actuated by control linkage (24) connected to the throttle linkage of the engine to vary the size of the annular opening between the valve and the chamber wall thereby controlling the molecular weight value about which the components separate. In a modification, the valve is of the iris type, Fig. 4 (not shown). In the arrangement shown in Fig. 5, the products of combustion from an i.c. engine exhaust manifold 30 are fed to a separator 10a from which the heavier components, viz from butane to tetraethyl lead, exit through a passage 16a, a conduit 32 and a check valve 34 to an after burning chamber 36 to which oxygen-containing gas is added at 38. Alternatively, the conduit 32 may be connected to the intake manifold of the engine. The lighter components, viz methane, ethane, propane, CO 2 and NO 2 , are discharged to atmosphere or, as shown, via passage 14a to a second separator 10b from which a heavier component comprising CO 2 and NO 2 is discharged to atmosphere through a passage 16b, while a lighter component comprising methane, ethane and propane is directed via a conduit 42 and a check valve 34a to the after burning chamber 36 or to the engine intake manifold. In another arrangement, Fig. 6, four or more cylindrical separators connected in series are enclosed in an outer shell. The supply conduit extends inwardly through the shell to the inlet of the first-in-line separator, the lighter component exhaust conduit from the last-in-line separator and the heavier component exhaust conduits from all the separators extend outwardly through the shell. Two or more of the heavier exhaust conduits may be connected in parallel to a common exhaust conduit.
