PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sulfonic acid group-containing polymer that exhibits excellent Ca ion capture capability and anti-gelling properties during cleaning and also has excellent compatibility with a surfactant, and a method for producing the same.

SOLUTION: The sulfonic acid group-containing polymer essentially includes (i) a structural unit derived from a sulfonic acid group-containing monomer and having specific structure and (ii) a structural unit derived from a carboxy group-containing monomer (B).
