<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a force sense imparting type shift device having high safety by making an operator recognize a prohibited operation by a sense of operation. <P>SOLUTION: The shift device (1) includes an X-motor (31) and a Y-motor (36) for making the shift lever (2) generate a repulsive force. A memory (51) stores force sense pattern data (52) including an ordinary pattern (P<SB POS="POST">0</SB>) set for a normal operation and special patterns (P<SB POS="POST">1</SB>, P<SB POS="POST">2</SB>, P<SB POS="POST">3</SB>) set for a prohibited operation. When detecting a prohibited operation in which a shift is changed from a parking position to a reverse position without pressing a foot brake, an operation restricting means executes force sense control for selecting one of the special patterns to impart a repulsive force to the operation of the shift lever. The prohibited operation is restricted by generating the sense of incongruity different from the ordinary pattern in the shift lever.
