<p>Modified epoxide resins are prepd., by reacting OH gp.-contg. alkyd resins (I), urea (II) and epoxide cpds. contg. >1 epoxide gp. for each ave. mol. wt., (III), pref. by first reacting (I) with (II), followed by reaction with (III). Prodts. are useful as powdery coating and sealing compsns., adhesives or binders for these, opt. in combination with hardeners, pigments, fillers, graphite, solvents or other resins. Pref. (I) are derived esp. from dicarboxylic acids and di- or tri-hydric alcohols and have >4% OH content and pref. (III) have 500 mol. wt. Reaction pref. takes place in a thin layer, opt. after applying to a substrate, esp. on inter-connected contrarotating rollers, opt. at different rotational speeds and temps., followe by removing, e.g., stripping, still fusible prodt. from substrate.</p> |
