1355970 Polymer compositions containing aluminium phosphate complexes IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 16 Nov 1971 [11 Dec 1970] 58994/70 Headings C3F C3P and C3R [Also in Division B2] Compositions comprise (a) a halogen-containing complex phosphate of aluminium containing at least one chemically-bound molecule of a hydroxy compound ROH where R is hydrogen or an organic group; (b) an organic polymer selected from diene, vinyl, vinylidene, acrylic, methacrylic, aldehyde and 1,2-epoxide polymers, phenoxy resins, saturated polyesters, unsaturated polyesters, polysulphones, polyurethanes, natural polymers, modified natural polymers and polysiloxanes; and (c) a solvent system adapted to codissolve (a) and (b). The halogen in (a) may be bromine, iodine or preferably chlorine, and preferred organic hydroxy compounds are C 1-10 alkanols. Many suitable polymers and solvent systems are specified and examples describe composition comprising aluminium chlorophosphate ethanolate of empirical formula AlPClH 25 C 8 O 8 together with (1) polyvinyl pyrrolidone and methanol, (2)polyvinyl acetate and methanol, (3) polyacrylic acid and methanol, (4) polymethyl methacrylate, chloroform and methanol, (5) poly-(vinyl ether/maleic anhydride), tetrahydrofuran and methanol, (6) polyvinyl butyral, chloroform and methanol, (7) poly-(vinylidene chloride/acrylonitrile), tetrahydrofuran and methanol, (8) polyvinyl chloride, tetrahydrofuran and methanol, (9) polystyrene, tetrahydrofuran and methanol, (10) polyacrylonitrile and dimethyl formamide, (11) polyvinyl formal, chloroform and methanol, (12) polyethylene oxide, chloroform and methanol, (13) cellulose acetate, chloroform and methanol and (14) cellulose acetate-butyrate, chloroform and methanol. The compositions may be formed into films, fibres and coatings containing aluminium phosphate by heating to above the decomposition temperature of the complex. |
