1350939 Styryl-triazoles CIBA-GEIGY AG 10 Dec 1971 [11 Dec 1970] 57519/71 Heading C2C Novel styryl-triazoles of general Formula (1) wherein R 1 denotes hydrogen, halogen, alkyl (1-4 C), alkoxy (1-4 C), or optionally substituted phenyl; R 2 and R 3 each denote hydrogen or halogen; and R 4 denotes optionally quaternized and/or substituted imidazol-1-yl, benzimidazolyl, pyrazol-1-yl, benzotriazolyl or 1,2,4 - triazol - 1 - yl are prepared by eliminating one mole of water from a compound of Formula (81) or (82) using an acidic condensation agent or by oxidatively cyclizing a compound of Formula (81) or (82) and then reducing the resulting v-triazole- 1-oxide so produced with nascent hydrogen. The styryl-triazoles may be converted into salts by quaternization, preferably of a nitrogen atom of the radical, R 4 . The novel compounds are used for the optical brightening of natural and synthetic organic materials, e.g. polyesters, cellulose acetates, polyamides, polypropylene and polyacrylonitrile, preferably using 0À001 to 2% by weight of the brightener relative to the weight of the material. Washing agents, e.g. detergents, comprising the novel styryl-triazoles are also envisaged. |
