PURPOSE: A display device and a controlling method thereof are provided to increase the convenience of a user by recognizing the operation of a display user. CONSTITUTION: An operation recognition unit of a display device recognizes a first operation of a user(S500). A controlling unit displays a pointer which is moved according to the operation of the user on a screen(S510). The controlling unit detects the current state of the user(S520). The controlling unit changes an image of the displayed pointer according to the detected current state of the user(S530). The current state of the user is detected by using the obtained user image.
