Thermal barrier coating for a steam turbine component

The thermal insulation layer structure (1) has a base layer (5) made of porous material, whose lower side surface (11) is adhered on a surface (6) of steam turbine component (7). Several grooves (2) are formed on the lower side surface of base layer, such that several tile portions (4) of specific shape and size are formed from porous material. The thermal expansion of the steam turbine component is compensated by the elastic deformation of the porous material. An independent claim is included for method for forming thermal insulation layer structure for steam turbine component.
