1377490 Corona charging/discharging apparatus KALLE AG 29 Dec 1971 [30 Dec 1970] 60416/71 Heading H1X An apparatus for the electrostatic charging or discharging of the surface of web or sheet-like material 10, especially the electrostatic charging of photoconductive insulating layers, includes means for passing such material along a defined path and an electrode 1 in the form of a rotatable roller with a roughened surface, which roller is partially surrounded by an insulator 5 and is located between pointed corona electrodes in the form of series of closely spaced needles 3 which are externally protected by a second insulator 6, the outer extremity of the said roller 1 and the points 4 of the needles 3 being spaced substantially equally from the said path of the material. A counter electrode 8 in the form of a roller or a metallic or metallized conveyer belt is maintained at the same potential as the roller 1 which is cleared by a brush 12. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 2, not shown) the insulator 5 includes ducts for the admission of gases or the extraction of gases and/or dust particles. |
